Social media came to the rescue when Windsor  & Slough Chrysanthemum, Fuchsia & Pelargonium Society held its first ever online flower show.

The traditional spring show at Gardener's Hall in St Leonard's Road had had to be cancelled because of the COVID-19 virus.

But would-be entrants were invited to send in pictures of their spring flowers instead, with the results judged online by members of the society.

Over the weekend society president Sandra Hopkins posted a message saying: "Thanks to all those of you who took part in and those who voted for our Spring Show. At least it alleviated some of the disappointment of not actually being there.

"Those who took the trouble to look at the photos will see the effort that was taken to grow and show their plants."

In the end they voted Mrs Hopkins' primroses as the best, Sid Garcia's double daffodils won in that category with Sue Howard's a close second, Denis Collman won for his tulips and Rob Wood for his mixed flowers.
