LATEST figures show coronavirus cases in Slough have slowly increased in recent days.

An interactive daily tracker showing the latest Covid-19 cases in England was published by the independent charity called Centre for Cities- which carries out research into how economic growth and change in the UK’s cities and large towns is affecting the populace.

In their report, there were 49 confirmed cases per 100,000 population of Covid-19 within the borough with London taking the top spot of 70 confirmed cases.

Slough dropped from third to fourth place for having the highest number of confirmed cases on the first day of publication, which was March 30, with Birmingham rapidly increasing its number of cases.

The Centre for Cities report also shows that the Borough spiked from 15 positive tests per 100,000 population on March 26 to 40 the next day.

Up-to-date government figures show that Slough has a total of 73 confirmed cases of the dreaded coronavirus, the highest in Berkshire.

A spokesman from Slough Borough Council said: “We want to reiterate to residents the advice given by the government that people need to stay at home and only venture out for essential medicine, food, work that cannot be done at home and for exercise once a day.

“All our play areas are closed, schools are only accepting the children of keyworkers and face to face council services have been modified or suspended to protect everyone from contracting or passing on this virus.

“Only a community response will stop this and we are asking all of Slough’s communities to act as one.”
