Events cancelled because of COVID-19

WINDSOR

*THERE is disappointment for almost 100 people who had expected to receive the traditional Maundy money from the Queen on Thursday, April 9 in a service at St George's Chapel - as a thank-you for their service to the community over the years.

It would have been the third time in three years that the event was held in Windsor but it has now been cancelled due to the Corona virus.

Recipients are now expected to be invited to receive the money from the Queen next year.

The Queen is expected to spend the Easter period at Windsor Castle as usual but is not expected to attend public events in the near future.

*THE Theatre Royal is now closed until further notice, leading to the cancellation of several plays and shows. See full story.

*THE Old Court Arts Centre in St Leonard's Road, Windsor is now closed - which has led to the cancellation of Windsor Theatre Guild's production of the play Blood Wedding by Spanish playwright Federico Garcia Lorca.

It was due to be performed at the Old Court from March 31 to April 4. People who have booked tickets can leave things as they are and will be able to see the play in the autumn when it is hoped it can still be staged.

For refunds contact the ticket office on 01753 743579 or www.oldcourt.org, or Windsor Information Centre.

*A FUND raising concert due to have been held on Saturday, April 4 to raise money for the £3million hospice Raise the Roof appeal has been cancelled. It was due to be held to support the Royal Borough's new hospice building, which is opening in June at Bray Lake to replace the increasingly overcrowded hospice at Hatch Lane. New Egham Singers were due to perform at the Rose Theatre, St Mary's School in Ascot.

Sue Berwick from New Egham Singers said: "This has been done in the interests of the health and safety of choir members, friends and family and our audience members, many of whom are in vulnerable categories.

"As this is case tickets are no longer on sale and any that have already been bought will be refunded."

A PRODUCTION by CAST Academy of the 1980s musical Back to the 80s has been cancelled.

It featured junior members of Colnbrook Amateur Stage Theatre (CAST) and was due to be performed at Colnbrook Village Hall in Vicarage Way today (Friday) and tomorrow. Director Steve Oakes is hoping that the show will be performed later in the year.

He said: "Today has been one of the most difficult decisions I have had to make during my theatre career, but our young members, crew and indeed audiences are our most valuable asset, and their health, safety and wellbeing are our primary concern. Take care all - we will return!"

DATCHET

DATCHET Players have cancelled their production of the Herd in April at the Village Hall. Margaret Bacon from the group said: "We are very sorry and disappointed to have to come to this decision but the Coronavirus situation is getting worse day by day, and we must consider the health of our audiences, many of whom could be classed as 'elderly'.

"All is not lost though as we definitely plan to produce the play at a later date, when things hopefully return to normal.

"Thank you to all those who have already booked. If you have paid for tickets by BACS please send us your bank details for a full refund and if you paid by cheque, let us know if you just want us to destroy them.
