Maidenhead's brand new Green Lane weir is to be officially launched next Saturday - complete with a fish and eel pass.

The weir raised water levels allowing allowing it to come cascading down, while the fish and eel pass allows wildlife to pass freely upstream or down.

Boat rollers have been installed to let small boats navigate sections of York Stream.

Robert Hutton, director at Greenford Ltd, the company chosen to carry out the work for the Royal Borough, said: "We have a proven track record of building quality and sustainable waterways across the United Kingdom. Adding this prestigious project to our repertoire is one we are incredibly proud of. We believe it will make a significant difference to the Maidenhead community."

It is all part of the Maidenhead Waterway project which aims to restore and enlarge the neglected town centre channels into an accessible waterway that everyone can be used for boating, walking, cycling, fishing or simply interacting with nature in the heart of the town.
