SOUTH Bucks United extended their lead at the top in Division One of the East Berkshire League after a 3-2 win at Hounslow Wanderers on Saturday, writes Rob Stevens.

Hounslow opened a clear lead at The Memorial Ground thanks to goals from Kevin Alves and Tamim Amin, but South Bucks recovered with a hat-trick from Andrew Gonzalez – two goals from the penalty spot – to take the points.

South Bucks are now four points clear at the top of the table, but second-placed Burnham Village have four matches in hand on the leaders.

Hounslow remain in fifth place having missed the chance to climb into the top four.

Townmead drew further clear at the top in Division Two following their 1-1 draw at Stoke Poges Saints Reserves.

Sam Manton scored from the penalty spot for The Saints at the Bells Hill Recreation Ground before the visitors equalised and then had appeals for a penalty of their own turned down.

Townmead are now 11 points clear at the top of the table but second-placed Old Windsor Reserves – whose match at Barton Rovers was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch at the Calcot Recreation Ground – have six matches in hand.

Stoke Poges consolidated fifth position in the table.

Eton Wick climbed to third spot after a 2-0 home win against bottom side Phoenix Old Boys A.

Old Windsor progressed into the quarter final of the League Cup following their 1-0 victory over St Peters Iver. The only goal in the last-16 tie at the Old Windsor Recreation Ground came from Joseph Allen.

Hype Train continue to make progress in the League Cup after a 2-1 win at higher league AFC Winkfield in round two.

The visitors to the Locks Ride Recreation Ground fell behind early in the tie before Rod Stevens equalised direct from a corner kick and man-of-the-match Sam Paddon won the game with a rocket of a strike in the second half.

Hype Train will bid for another giant killing in the cup when Premier Division side FC Beaconsfield visit the Calcot Recreation Ground in round three on Saturday 28th March.

The pick of the action this Saturday sees Premier Division outfit Iver Heath host Newport Pagnell Town Reserves in the semi final to the Berks & Bucks Intermediate Cup. The winners will meet Wargrave in the cup final.

There is an all-East Berkshire League semi final to the High Wycombe Challenge Cup as Singh Sabha welcome Burnham Village to the Singh Sabha Sports Centre.

The new Legea Ultimate Eleven Cup gets under way with the start to the Group Stage. Premier Division rivals FC Beaconsfield and Slough Heating Laurencians Reserves meet in Group B.

And in Group C KS Gryf host South Bucks United while Townmead make the trip to AFC Cressex.
