Windsor care home residents have taken the much publicised countrywide Garden Watch campaign to the ‘nest level’.
The residents of Mountbatten Grange in Helston Lane were joined by a variety of owls in a special ‘show and tell’ workshop, able to get up close to the impressive creatures and find out more about them.
They also had the opportunity to spot native species, including buzzards and swans, when they visited Windsor Great Park for an afternoon of birdwatching.
Debbie Winwood, home manager at Mountbatten Grange, said: “Residents love taking part in nature-themed activities here at Mountbatten Grange, and we had a lot of fun celebrating this year’s bird-themed event.
“It proved to be a real success, and you could see from residents’ reactions just how engaged and thrilled they were by the chance to get up close to these incredible birds. We know just how beneficial connecting with nature and animals can be for older people, especially for those living with dementia. Being close to animals has many benefits, it can help lift a person’s mood and encourage social interaction – and it was fantastic to see the smiles on everyone’s faces.”
