The new Braywick Leisure Centre due to open next September will be run by Parkwood - the same company that also runs the old Magnet centre in Maidenhead.

The Magnet Leisure Centre will remain open until the new centre is ready.

Royal Borough bosses have decided that putting the new centre under the control of Parkwood will ensure continuity, while continuing a relationship with the company that has lasted four years and seen a large growth in use of the authority's leisure facilities.

Cllr Samantha Rayner, lead member for leisure, said: “I am delighted that Parkwood made a successful bid for the contract. Parkwood impressed us with their vision to make Braywick Leisure Centre an amazing facility which will serve our residents for the future. They share our desire to make this an outstanding centre for sport and community use. They will also bring a fresh approach to the cafe area which is very exciting and reflects the change in expectations and experience our residents deserve.”

The new centre is scheduled to open on Saturday, September 5 and will feature a 10 lane pool, 200 station gym, dance studios, squash courts, netball and football facilities and car parking for 430 vehicles.

Glen Hall, Managing Director of Parkwood Leisure, said: “We thrilled that we have been appointed to run the new Braywick Leisure Centre site. This amazing new facility will enable us to further improve and enhance the leisure facility for Royal Borough residents.

“We look forward to welcoming leisure centre users, both old and new to the new centre."
