Windsor Lions helped raise awareness of World Diabetes Day on Thursday when they set up a stand at Tesco's in Dedworth Road.
Almost four million people in the UK suffer with Diabetes, 90 per cent having type two diabetes which is largely brought on by lifestyle choices.
The Lions are part of one of the biggest community service social organisations in the world and their Windsor team provided leaflets and information about the disease on their Teso stand, along with a quiz asking passing shoppers to rank jars of cooking sauces and chutneys by the amount of sugar they contained. Most were staggered that a small jar of mango chutney contained 24 teaspoons of sugar.
Organisers of the event Nick and Teresa Jones were delighted with the response, saying: ‘We were so pleased with the number of people who took away leaflets, took part in our quiz or just stopped for a chat.
"Diabetes is a major health problem in society and we are happy to be a small part of raising awareness about it."
