A man who admitted posting 'revenge porn' pictures of a woman online before attacking her in his flat has walked free from court after his victim told a judge her statement to police had been wrong.

Galice Belsom had pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing of posting naked pictures of the woman on social media and beating her a month later at his Windsor flat.

She had told police: "He shouted abuse and launched into an attack on me. He strangled me at least three times and each time I could not breathe, I was panicking, I did not think I would make it out of the flat.

“I curled up in a ball to protect myself. My nose was bleeding and I had a great pain in my head. I could not breathe.”

She told police that a month before the attack Belsom had put the naked photographs of her up on line 'because I would not let him come round my house because he was relapsing with drugs'.

The pictures were posted for 24 hours.

The victim told the police: 'He blamed it on him being drunk. I did not speak to him for three to four weeks after this'.

On June 20 the two spent the day together and went back to his flat in Windsor - where the attack that she later graphically described in a statement to police had happened.

At the sentencing hearing she took the stand and told Judge Angela Morris: "'I do not recognise this statement. I think I have been mixed up with a lot of things. I could never live with myself if I do not say this to you. My statement is wrong."

Belsen, who is 45 and has 10 previous convictions had spent four months in custody. He broke down as the court was told he had a 10-year-old son he had not seen for all that time.

The judge sentenced Belsen to 22 weeks imprisonment for disclosing private sexual photos and assault causing actual bodily harm, saying: "This will allow for your release immediately, allowing for the period of time you have already spent in custody. Let this be the end of the matter, Mr Belsom."
