SLOUGH made a disappointing start in the new Investec League Division One South after losing 1-0 at Berkshire rivals Reading on Saturday.

They struggled to finish off some promising moves, a failure which ultimately saw them relegated from the Premier Division.

A tight game looked to be heading for a draw with both defences remaining solid, but seven minutes from time Slough failed to stop player-coach Jo Ellis from snatching the winning goal for Reading.

Their squad - only 13 strong at Sonning |Lane - has seen a number of changes since last season and there were debuts for new signings Megan Hughes and German Sara Vollmerhausen.

Juliette Inverdale, who did not play at all last season, made a welcome return to the side, as did Charly Brydon and Betsy Ommala.

Several players have however left the Upton Court Park club, the latest being forward Georgina Bathurst, who has moved to Division One North club Stourport.

The Pink and Blacks will be hoping to put their first points on the board when they play their opening home game against Harleston Magpies this Saturday (12.15pm pushback).

Harleston drew 1-1 at Canterbury in their opening game last weekend.

In-form Slough 2s make an early start to their home Trysports Three Counties League Premier Division One fixture on Saturday, with a 10am pushback against South Berkshire.

They will be looking to make it three wins from three, having defeated Aylesbury 3-0 and Amersham and Chalfont 2s 1-0.

Slough men went down 3-2 at Henley in their opening Middx, Berks, Bucks & Oxon League Premier Division Two game on Saturday.

Their goals came from Kuli Matharu and Romnik Nijer, while Ed Foster, Chris Green and Geoff Joseph were on target for the hosts.

This coming Saturday they face PHC Chiswick at Upton Court Park with a 2.30pm pushback.
