Slough Urban Renewal’s (SUR) proposals for the Stoke Wharf area in the town has picked up a prestigious local award, as it was voted ‘best project vision of the year’ at the inaugural Berkshire Property Awards.

The proposed mixed use scheme, which will sit alongside the Grand Union Canal in Slough was praised by the judges for demonstrating a clear vision and for its both aspirational and inspirational approach.

Andy Howell, General Manager of Slough Urban Renewal (SUR) said: “It’s fantastic to get some recognition for this project, so early on in its journey. Through our Stoke Wharf scheme, it is our aim to not only deliver new housing but to revitalise this area of the town, offering an enhanced leisure amenity for the benefit of the wider community. We were delighted to have been part of the first ever Berkshire Property Awards and we hope to see this become a regular event in the awards calendar.”

Stoke Wharf will be delivered through a partnership between Slough Urban Renewal and Waterside Places – a joint venture between urban regeneration specialist, Muse Developments and the Canal & River Trust - who are working to redevelop this area, which sits at the end of the Slough branch of the Grand Union Canal. The plans involve bringing the canal back to life and creating a mixed-use development with around 270 new homes, improvements to the Bowyers recreation ground and enhancements to the tow path and cycling routes.

Chris Scott, Development Director at Waterside Places, said: “It’s a proud moment for everyone involved in the Stoke Wharf project, especially in this early stage. Waterside Places and Slough Urban Renewal are committed to delivering a truly transformational scheme here, which will create a new, vibrant community on the banks of the Grand Union Canal for everyone to enjoy.”

Community consultation events have already taken place at both the Slough Canal Festival and through a community exhibition, which ran for two days at The Curve. More information about the proposals can be found at www.stokewharf.commonplace.is

A planning application will be submitted later this year.
