A star line-up will be helping Slough, Windsor and Maidenhead Samaritans celebrate their 50th birthday this autumn.

An Evening of Popular Music at St Bernard’s Catholic Grammar School in Langley Road, will boast a line-up that includes Bray based jazz pianist Laurie Holloway, jazz singer Tina May, up and coming indie band Bought It For The Bottle, classical pianist Robert Cheung and the Maidenhead Community Choir.

It is happening on Saturday, Novbember 23.

The locally based Samaritans do not receive central funding so need to raise £40,000 each year to cover premises, equipment, training for volunteers and phone costs.

Over 100 volunteers at the local branch provide a round-the-clock listening service for people who are either suicidal or are struggling to cope. They also work with local schools to encourage good emotional health for their pupils and also provide support to hospitals, railway stations and other local organisations as and when required.

Susan Chapman, Branch Director, Slough, Windsor Maidenhead Samaritans says: "This is set to be a night to remember and a brilliant way to mark our 50th anniversary. Our local volunteers help thousands of people every year - however, our work listening to callers, replying to emails or texts, or visiting local organisations, all costs money. So buying a ticket to this fantastic fundraiser would be a massive help.

“A big thank you to SEGRO, which owns and manages the Slough Trading Estate and which is very kindly sponsoring this event.”
