THE Liberal Democrats have confirmed their candidate for the Oxford East constituency whenever a general election is held.
Alistair Fernie is set to stand against Labour's Anneliese Dodds within the next couple of months.
He has worked for the Department for International Development for 18 years and has run British aid programmes in Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Kenya, Somalia and the Middle East.
He has also represented the UK as a senior diplomat in development, human rights and climate change.

He said: “I’m delighted to have been selected to stand as the Liberal Democrat candidate in Oxford East. A General Election seems imminent. We think most voters in Oxford East want an MP who argues clearly for the UK to remain in the EU.
“Brexit continues to dominate British politics. But Labour’s position on Brexit is still unclear. The Tories are ready to see the job losses, food shortages and price rises a No Deal Brexit will bring, which vulnerable people in Oxford East will struggle to cope with.
“The Liberal Democrats are the strongest party of Remain, and have fought consistently for the UK to remain in the EU, and reform its institutions. We are working closely with people from other parties to achieve this."
