A former councillor has started a campaign to defeat the bike thieves who have been targeting Windsor.
Ed Wilson, who represented the old Clewer South ward in the Royal Borough until May, wants to see a cycle hub in the town that would provide secure storage for up to 50 bikes while also offering related services such as repairs or bike hire facilities.
He has recruited residents and businesses in the area and hopes to come up with a plan that could be presented to the council in time to have the facility up and running next year.
He said: "I have spoken to many people who have had their bikes stolen from Central Windsor. The cycle hub will help reduce the number of bike thefts and encourage more people to cycle into Windsor."
He says the proposed cycle hub would be accessed by a smartcard and protected by CCTV and individual bike locks. The Hub would be located in central Windsor to make it easy for cyclists to park and then use the facilities within the town.
Plans for a website to explain the concept are being developed. Mr Wilson and the Cycle Hub Team are hoping to display their plans before Christmas, but further information can be obtained from Ed Wilson at ed@wilsonnow.com.
