The Thames Valley Athletics Centre in Pococks Lane is to become host to a new children's nursery.

A new mezzanine floor above the main sports hall on the site in Eton will house the nursery which will have room for 60 children, two full time and six part time employees.

It will open Monday to Friday between 7am and 5.30pm.

The mezzanine floor will cover 245 sq m over the top of a section of the main sports hall/athletics training area which has a two storey ceiling height.

Councillors on the Royal Borough's Windsor Area Development Management Panel gave unanimous consent for the plan when they discussed it at a meeting at York House on Wednesday.

They were told that the internal layout of the building would remain unchanged and that there would be no change to or loss of the existing sporting facilities.

The external appearance of the famous athletics centre will not change either.

Councillors welcomed the fact that a daytime use had been found for the athletics facility which was often underused at the moment.
