The annual award for most colourful pub in Stoke Poges, Wexham and Fulmer has been won for the third year running by the Rose and Crown.

The JT Ireland Cup was donated by Jim Ireland - well known Stoke Poges resident and past president of the Horticultural Society. It is open to licensed premises within the three villages and has been awarded each year since 1994.

This year the cup was presented to Sarah Birchill and David Thomas, the landlords of the Rose and Crown at Hollybush Hill, Stoke Poges by Jon Homan, past president of the Horticultural Society.

The presentation came in advance of the 126th annual show which takes place on Saturday in the grounds of Stoke Poges School in Rogers Lane.

Mr Homan said: "They have made a superb effort and the result is a stunning advertisement for the pub."

Sarah said: "I love carrying out the display even though it is a lot of work. I have made some changes including the addition of some firey snapdragons and a new flowerbed by the car park. We're delighted to have won again but have a long way to go to beat the Black Horse record of 10 wins in succession."

Formal presentations will be made at the show.

Attractions on the day will include a grand show marquee with its horticultural, art and craft exhibits, a spectacular cassic car display, Reading Spring Gardens Brass Band, a barbecue, beer and Pimms, cream teas, childrens’ rides, gift and craft stalls run by local clubs and charities, tombolas, a coconut shy and fantastic raffle prizes.

The range of competition classes takes in plants and flowers, cacti, fruit and vegetables, art, home economics, photography and a variety of classes for under 16 year olds.
