CAMPAIGNERS have been visiting dozens of Bucks schools in a bid to take a stand against cuts to education in the county.

Teachers and protesters launched a campaign against what they called “damaging” cuts to school provision.

The group - part of a cross-party campaign called Together for Education - launched on July 6 and since then, have been visiting schools to raise awareness.

Bucks’ schools have lost out on £34,577,537 since 2015, according to the website schoolcuts.org.uk.

A total of 179 schools across the county have seen their per-pupil funding slashed.

The campaign group - called Bucks Together for Education - has launched a petition to take a stand against cuts.

The campaign group is asking parents, guardians and anyone invested in education in the area to sign the petition “so that the government and Wycombe’s Conservative MP Steve Baker, know the strength of feeling in the community”.

Cllr Khalil Ahmed, who is also standing as Wycombe Labour’s parliamentary candidate has asked people to back the group.

He said: “Across Buckinghamshire people have experienced budget cuts in education, whether their child’s school week is about to get shorter, they’ve received a letter asking for a monetary contribution or they’ve noticed other cutbacks at their local school, education cuts are happening and affecting our kids.

“I’m asking families and other people who are responsible for children in Bucks to sign this petition and send a message to the government to give schools their funding back.”

The schools visited by campaigners over the course of the past few weeks included Loudwater Combined School, Tylers Green First and Middle Schools, the Highcrest Academy and Wycombe High School.
