A new fundraising challenge is being launched to help supporters raise money towards the Royal Borough's new hospice being built by Bray Lake.

The challenge is named Raise Your Game to Raise the Roof and will encourage supporters to run, walk or jog the equivalent of a marathon in the course of their daily life throughout September, while being sponsored through friends or relatives.

Their physical activity will be logged through an online fundraising platform so the miles covered can be tracked as they build up.

Alison Evans, head of community and event fundraising at Thames Hospice, said: “We are inviting everyone to get involved and ‘raise their game’ to help us raise the final £3million needed to build our amazing new hospice. No matter what your fitness ability or where you are in the country, join us and help us revolutionise hospice care.”

The new hospice will replace the existing one in Hatch Lane, Windsor which has served the community for 30 years and become increasingly overcrowded as demand for its services grows.

Set in more than eight acres with views across landscaped gardens and Bray Lake, the new hospice will have 28 inpatient beds in individual en-suite rooms.

It will include a new day centre (the Paul Bevan Centre) offering a wider range of daily therapeutic and social activities for day patients and inpatients, and will allow the hospice to double its day service provision. A new education centre will ensure staff receive ongoing training so patients get the best care, while also offering help and training to others in the community.
