WINDSOR, Slough, Eton & Hounslow (WSEH) played host to the top athletes match in the UK on Saturday - a combined Women’s League Premier and British Athletics League Division One fixture.

Clubs from as far afield as Edinburgh, Manchester, Birmingham, Swansea and Southampton were in attendance at the Thames Valley Athletics Centre in Eton.

The day ended on a high note for

WSEH

after victory in the British League match, with a total of 326 points, and second place in the Women’s League event.

The British league match started well for the club in the 400m hurdles with second place for Jacob Paul in 50.77 seconds (secs) and a victory in the B race for Tyri Donovan in 51.3secs.

The trend continued in the 100m with Deji Tobais out in front on 10.54secs, and 400m specialist Alex Haydock-Wilson making it maximum points in the B race in a personal best (PB) of 10.88secs.

The same pairing were again in action in the 200m but this time Tobais had to settle for third in 21.69secs. Haydock-Wilson continued his winning streak in the B race with another PB of 21.45secs.

The 800m had Dylan Spencer in third place with one minute and 57.12 seconds (1:57.12). Team captain Peter Moreno grabbed second place in the 100m hurdles in 17.72secs.

WSEH

scored heavily in the field events. In the opening hammer competition, Iain Botting was third with 47.72m and Luke Norris was similarly placed in the B event on 40.98m.

There was second place finishes in the long jump from Sam Challis (6.79m) and Moreno (6.49m).

It was good to see former international decathlete Ashley Bryant back in action, third in the discus with 45.69m.

The club rounded off a highly successful event with a win in the final event, the 4x400m relay. The squad of Donovan, Max Haydock-Wilson, Sam Plumb and Paul clocking 3:15.76.

WSEH finished as runners-up in the Women’s League Premier Division match with a total of 188 points, behind winners Thames Valley Harriers (241), with Birchfield Harriers Birmingham (158) in third place.

Once again the opening track event, the 400m hurdles, proved lucrative for the club with Nicolle Kendall third in 57.46secs. Marcey Winter won the B race in 59.04secs.

The best of the sprints proved to be the 200m where both Harriet Jones (24.56secs) and Jess Armah (24.88secs) took third place.

The top result in the distance races was produced by Sarah Chapman, who won the 3,000m in 9:32.01, with Charlotte Firth in third place in 10:27.73.

Alex Barbour also had a good run to place second in the 2,000m steeplechase in 7:00.81.

It was in the throws events however where the club were most prominent. There was a win for Amy Herrington in the opening hammer with her 60.99m.

In the discus maximum points accrued via the efforts of Amy Holder (53.82m) and Clare Fitzgerald (51.21m).

The javelin saw Jodie Smith in second place with 38.48m, the same placing gained by Suzzane Palmer with her 37.13m.

The best of the relays came in the 4x100m where the team of Steph Clitheroe, Jess Armah, Beccy Watkins and Harriett Jones were second in 47.30secs.
