A MUSIC academy that teaches dozens of people from across West Oxfordshire has tonight revealed the building it hopes to call its new home.

At a meeting this evening, trustees of the 7 C's foundation, which runs MuzoAkademy, unveiled its plans to turn Wychwood Brewery's former distribution centre in Witney into a community arts centre.

The building, on the Eagle Industrial Estate, is about four times the size of the now-demolished Rock Barn, the academy's former home in Witney Market Square, which is set to be replaced by six flats.

MuzoAkademy is aiming to move in when the venue becomes empty at the end of June, but will need to raise £18,000 to pay the deposit.

It would then develop the building into a community arts centre alongside teaching music to more than 100 people of all ages and abilities.

The academy left the Rock Barn last September and has since been based temporarily in Witney Music Rooms on the Eagle Industrial Estate.

Jon Berry, chairman of 7 C's, said: "It's a little unreal, because we've been searching without any success for 18 months before we were out of the Rock Barn.

"We got a whisper about this in April and Wychwood have been really accommodating."

The plans for the centre include a fixed stage and public hall for music and the arts, learning pods, a community cafe and bar.

Mr Berry added: "It's for the whole community. Every other venue we looked at presented us with significant challenges.

"But this venue is very central, it's a great access point and it's right in the cultural heart of Witney. It feels like the right place for us to be."
