IT IS 100 years since 3rd Slough Guides were formed and supporters celebrated the centenary with a hog roast and campfire at Dorneywood on Saturday.

About 130 members and friends enjoyed the day.

On Sunday a parade service at Slough Baptist Church was attended by Slough's mayor Cllr Paul Sohal, the Guide movement's Berkshire’s President Jane Bingham and commissioner Kate Snell as well as the guiding Swan Division's commissioner Ingrid Stuart.

A key moment of the service came when Betty Ashton was presented with an award for 60 years’ service as a leader in guiding. She has actually been involved with the guides for 67 years.

She has a daughter who runs Guides and Rangers – Lesley Ashton, a son who runs 1st Cippenham Scouts Greg Ashton and a granddaughter Ellie Ashton, who is also involved as a leader in the Scouts.
