A woman from Cippenham is gearing up for the final of Mrs India UK later this month.
Saakshi Kanwar is one of the finalists of the competition which concludes at a grand finale held in London later this month.
Mrs India UK is more than just a conventional beauty pageant, however. The competitors go through a series of rounds including a talent round, public speaking and styling amongst other tasks.
Aiming to empower the women competing, the competition helps build confidence, encourages learning and strengthens community bonds.
The competition also encourages entrants to support different causes. Saakshi said: “I have been working with many charities for a long time. For example, I have been working with a charity that helps those experiencing domestic violence and human trafficking.
“In my career as a teacher, I spent a lot of time working with young people. I know what challenges these kids face nowadays. These issues are very close to my heart. Children are our future. If we can nurture them with the human values, we can have a better society.
“For me, because I have got to give back to society, I have been inspired. The competition is a good platform to raise the issues that I am passionate about.”
The final of the competition is due to be held on April 14 at the Hilton Hotel in London Bridge.
