Being visually impaired failed to deter a group of visitors to Maidenhead's Go Karting Centre from putting on the speed last Thursday.
The Go Karting Centre played host to 23 members of the Aktiveyes group which is part of Berkshire County Blind Society and supports visually impaired and blind adults in the Slough, Windsor and Maidenhead area.
For those members with zero vision a two seater go-kart was used with a professional driver from the centre. Members who have some sight were allowed to drive solo around the track and the racing was exhilarating and surprisingly fast.
Several of the Aktiveyes members said that it was the most exciting event that they had taken part in for years and two of them said it had filled part of their bucket list.
The event was partially funded by a donation from the Bourne End Rotary Club with additional contribution from a crowd funding programme.
