Prime Minister Theresa May's future remained as uncertain as ever this morning after the Democratic Unionists refused once again to back the deal she negotiated with Brussels - despite her offer to resign if they would help her get it through parliament.

The offer was enough to persuade some high profile Brexiteers in her party to finally support her deal if it came back for a third time.

But without the support of the DUP Mrs May's deal has no chance of getting through on a third reading and there is no guarantee she will be allowed by the speaker to try again.

Last night MPs voted down eight alternatives to Mrs May's deal - everything from agreeing a 'crash out' to agreeing to staying in a customs union, leaving the situation as unresolved as ever and no sign of a solution in time for the end of the extended Brexit deadline on April 12.

Mrs May is Maidenhead's MP.
