THE Old Court Arts Centre will be turning the clock back two centuries this April - as the elegant world of Jane Austen comes vividly to life.

Sense and Sensibility - an adaptation of one of the author's most celebrated books will be playing at the centre in St Leonard's Road, performed by the town's celebrated drama group the Windsor Theatre Guild.

The show will take audiences back to a time of etiquette, romance and marrying for money.

It follows the loves, betrayals and romances of the Dashwood daughters Elinor and Marianne.

They are forced to leave their beautiful home after the death of their father sees the property inherited by their feeble brother and his grasping wife. It means starting a new life in reduced circumstances in a modest cottage in Devon.

The reckless and daring Marianne soon attracts the attentions of the solid and sensible Colonel Brandon. But she falls passionately in love with the dashing John Willoughby after he literally sweeps her off her feet when she injures her ankle.

But is the charming and devilishly handsome Willoughby all that he seems?

Meanwhile Elinor falls for the shy and reserved Edward Ferrars, whose ambitious family want to push him into an advantageous marriage and a political career. But he has a secret of his own.

The path of true love does not run smoothly for either sister and the constant interference of their annoying relative Sir John Middleton and his obsessive matchmaker of a mother-in-law Mrs Jennings does little to help.

Fans of witty language and beautiful costumes from the elegant Regency era will not want to miss this production.

The play is directed by 'Austen enthuisiast' Karen Hanley who also adapted it under the pseudonym KK Verrain.
