A MAN has died following an incident in Basingstoke town centre yesterday evening (Friday, March 22).
A statement from Hampshire Constabulary read: “We can confirm a man has died after an incident at the Malls Shopping Centre car park in Basingstoke at around 6.35pm on Friday, March 22.
“Police and medical staff were called to the scene where a seriously injured man was found on the pavement below the car park.
“Despite attempts to save him the man died.”
The death is not being treated as suspicious.
Officers will now prepare a file for the coroner.
Police and the ambulance service attended the scene with social media images showing an air ambulance landing at The Vyne Community School site shortly after 7pm.
One eyewitness on social media reported calling the emergency services after a man appeared to fall from the car park above the shopping centre.
The witness commended the “amazing” response from both the police and ambulance service.
