Clocking up miles pedalling round Slough could lead to a trip to the Grand Canyon.

Cyclists in Slough are being encouraged to sign up to Love to Ride, where they can log their latest trip and compete against other riders around the country.

Each ride logged will go into a draw with the chance to win a trip to New Zealand, the Grand Canyon or the Netherlands among other prizes in the national competition.

Residents in Slough are being encouraged to swap their cars for a bicycle during Ride to Work Week which starts today. It is the first in a series of events to be held in Slough throughout the year.

The council, with partners Cycle Experience, will be offering cycling skills courses in May and June, including a women’s only course, to help cyclists ride confidently in traffic. In addition, there is set to be an updated cycle map showing the best routes to get around the Borough.

Love to Ride Slough's local project manager Josie Heffernan said: “More people cycling in Slough has the potential to bring so many benefits. It can make us happier, healthier and more active, plus it can reduce congestion and pollution to make the air cleaner – and our journeys easier – for everyone in Slough. I’m looking forward to working with local workplaces, schools, faith and community groups to get more people on bikes – and I’d love to hear from anyone in Slough who shares our aims and would like to get involved.”
