Slough Borough Council’s public health team will be supporting World TB Day with a series of events later this week.

A series of events on Thursday and Friday will run, alongside a month-long radio campaign on local radio campaign Asian Star.

Representatives from the East Berkshire CCG, the TB team and public health will be at:

• Exotic superstore 282 Farnham Road, Slough: 9.30am – 1pm on Thursday 21 March

• Queensmere Shopping Centre: 9.30am – 3.30pm on Friday 22 March

• Wexham Park Hospital: 9am – 12noon on Monday 25 March.

Berkshire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) and the Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust’s TB Team will be supporting the Council.

Cllr Natasa Pantelic, cabinet member for health and adult social care, said: “TB cases in Slough are still unacceptably high and I encourage residents who have entered the UK in the last five years from places such as South Asia or Sub-Saharan Africa to book a simple blood or skin test, which is free from your local TB service.

“Do look out for events happening in your local neighbourhood for World TB Day to find out more.”

Dr Jo Jefferies, Public Health consultant, said: “Partners across Slough have been doing some excellent work talking with residents about TB. People often think TB is a Victorian disease that is no longer around in the UK.

“TB is curable, effective treatment and testing for the latent form of TB means people can be treated before they become ill. World TB Day is an opportunity for people everywhere to be informed about TB, educate others and urge governments to take action.”
