Following the attack on two Mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, leader of the council James Swindlehurst and chief executive, Josie Wragg, have released a statement on behalf of Slough Borough Council.

“We, along with our residents, stand with the world today in condemning the horrendous attacks in Christchurch, New Zealand.

“This was cold-blooded murder of innocent people going about their daily business; there is no justification, no explanation that excuses such horror.

“These heartless terrorists do not share our values, do not share our beliefs; they wish to divide us, turn our love and respect for each other into hate.

“Religion speaks peace; these terrorists represent no one; no faith, no race, no religion. No reasonable thinking people sanction acts of evil. Extremism and hate in any form is abhorrent to us.

““Our thoughts are with the victims, their family and friends and we hope the good wishes from around the world help all the communities of New Zealand who have been rocked by these attacks.

“We ask Slough residents to come together and support each other, stand together, united against those who would try and divide us, united in our belief in freedom, community and peace.”
