Shakespeare and Jane Austen will both be contributing to the entertainment of theatre lovers across the Royal Borough this year - thanks to the Windsor Theatre Guild.

The prestigious Windsor based drama group will be reviving its annual open air summer Shakespeare performance for the first time since 2015 with A Midsummer Night's Dream, to be staged in the spacious grounds of Foxleigh Grove nursing home Forest Green Road, Holyport.

Meanwhile rehearsals are well advanced for the Guild's spring show - an adaptation of Jane Austen's Sense and Sensibility - which is being staged at the Old Court, St Leonard's Road, Windsor between April 9 and 13 at 8pm.

The Guild temporarily abandoned its open air Shakespeare shows after aircraft noise made them impossible to stage in Windsor.

But now with the aid of new lighting equipment, the group will be reviving the tradition for the first time since 2015 at Foxleigh Grove, having previously performed afternoon matinee children's shows there in its beautiful forest garden.

Director Anna Jones said: "I am over the moon to be directing William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream with Windsor Theatre Guild as their summer production this year, in the beautiful outdoor setting of Foxleigh."

Before then the Guild's production of Jane Austen's Sense and Sensibility will take audiences back to the early 19th century though the story of two sisters one calm and sensible, one headstrong and reckless as they pursue their romantic dreams in early 19th century England.

It is being directed by Karen Hanley.
