Frying pans were at the ready at Windsor Royal Station on Tuesday.

But it was the pancake princesses from Waitrose who had the ingredients for success - as they came first in the ComXo Windsor & Eton Flippin’ Pancake Challenge.

Large crowds gathered in Windsor Royal Station on Tuesday morning to witness the spectacle of grown men and women with their hair in rollers, wearing headscarves, lipstick and frocks they battled it out in the hotly contested heats.

Teams had to race in relay while tossing their pancakes and catching them again in the pan - requiring quite a lot of dexterity.

The pancake princesses were led by Waitrose deputy store manager and team captain Paul Doherty supported by team members Alex Hill, Ryan Henry and Charlotte Walton.

Five mascots lined up for the coveted mascot race which included entries from the Alexandra Devine children's hospice charity, Scrummies Rugby school, ComXo, Icicles and the MacDonald Hotel. The winner for the Mascot Race was the ComXo team.

Andrew Try CEO of ComXo, which sponsored the event said: "It’s flippin’ brilliant. Our staff love competing, dressing up in silly costumes and feeling part of the Windsor community, it’s a tonic for everything Brexit!”

Best dress award went to the Wrens Wenches from the Sir Christopher Wren Hotel.

Trophies for the day were sponsored by awards specialists Argraves and presented by the Mayor of Windsor and Maidenhead Councillor Paul Lion.

Sue Watts from Windsor Royal Shopping said: “It was a pleasure to host the Flippin Pancake Challenge once again, on a gloriously sunny but breezy morning. Although we had slightly fewer teams this year the level of fun was great thanks to all the competitors and their enthusiasm for dressing up and competing. It is a delight to have a little bit of fun whilst raising funds for charity.”

More than £500 is expected to have been raised from the Pancake Challenge with the funds shared between the Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service, Windsor Homeless Project and More than a Shelter .
