It was a day to remember at Churchmead Church of England School in Datchet on Wednesday when the Mayor unveiled the newly refurbished maths and business centre.

The work had taken three months and cost £250,000 - thanks to the generosity of the Oxford Diocese.

Headteacher Chris Tomes said: "The old media and business block was completely gutted. Walls were knocked down. We now have seven classrooms in there, a break out room and a modern lift.

"There is more space and up to date technology. It is light and bright and a whole new teaching area."

p>Guests included Cllr Harry Clasper, the deputy chairman of Datchet parish council, Jane Mahary the head of education for the Oxford Diocese and Shangkeeth Srikumar, building surveyor with DHP building design consultants.

They were all given a guided tour round the new facility by the student leadership team, followed by a reception of tea and cake.

Mr Tomes said: "The Mayor was most impressed with the new facilities and we are delighted that the new learning area is complete after many months of hard work. Our students are enjoying their new classrooms and thoroughly engaged with the modern technology we now have as art of their learning."
