YOUNG people from 20 primary school brought the exciting world of time travel to life this week as they celebrated the art of dance at Maidenhead's Magnet Leisure Centre.

Almost 800 young people took part in the Primary Dance Festival, organised by Ascot & Maidenhead School Sport Partnership.

The festival ran from Wednesday to Thursday. The theme was A Fairy Tale Reimagined and it took its inspiration from the recent Doctor Who series, incorporating time travel, romance and heroes and heroines.

It contained performances from primary school children ranging from four to 11 years of age.

The unique aspect of the festival was that all of the performances were carried out by whole class size groups, showing the quality of dance that can be performed within the curriculum. It was all thanks to the work of Jane Douglass - the School Sport Partnership’s Dance Teacher.

Emma Fitzgerald, Partnership Development Manager from the partnership, said: “We are really proud to be able to create special memories for the future for our children. Our schools put in weeks of hard work to prepare for this festival and I’m really pleased the partnership is still able to provide this special performance opportunity for them to feel part of something bigger.

"This is a true celebration of dance."

She also thanked Jump In Trampoline Park, Slough and the local educational funding charity The Spoore, Merry and Rixman Fund for their support.

The Slough based trampoline park was sponsoring the event for the first time.
