The rallying call is going out to businesses across Windsor as the time for this year's pancake race approaches.

Easter is late this year so the traditional Shrove Tuesday race at Windsor Royal Shopping is happening on Tuesday, March 6.

This year's Windsor & Eton Pancake Challenge is sponsored by ComXo and the heat will be on as teams of four line up from 10.30am to race relay-fashion along a 50-metre course, tossing their pancakes three times to a minimum height of two feet as they compete for top honours and a shiny frying pan trophy.

Teams are encouraged to don the traditional pancake racing gear of the 15th-century housewife – skirt, apron, headscarf and frying pan (with no concessions for male participants) – and there is a prize for the best-dressed team.

There will also be the annual 'mascot races' which have proved a great hit over the years and have featured in the past racing chickens, Lego bricks, dolphins and even camels.

Andrew Try, chief executive of ComXo said: "As one of the largest local employers and with staff numbers growing, we love being involved in community events like the Windsor Pancake race as well as giving our staff the opportunity to step outside the office to have some fun. Let's hope we can take the trophy home, once again."

The race is organised by the Windsor, Eton and Ascot Town Partnership and Windsor Royal Shopping. The proceeds will go towards the Windsor Homeless Project and the Alexander Devine children's hospice charity.

Entry fee is only £40 per team but businesses are welcome to donate more if they wish.
