A GROUP of sea cadets from Maidenhead will undertake essential river wall renovations with the help of a leading regional housebuilder.
Maidenhead Sea Cadets have received a £1,000 cash boost from Persimmon Homes North London, which has its headquarters in the town.
Based on the former Maidenhead Gas Works site, the cadets’ river wall is in need of renovation due to ageing brickwork. The wall is one of the few remaining structures dating back to the former site.
Andrew Adamson, from the group, said: “Our eventual aim is to build a new building but we must first conduct essential strengthening work to our river wall.
“Although the wall is old, it is basically sound, though some bricks have recently fallen out and must be replaced.
“This is an important project for us, which will enhance the visual impact of an old architectural feature, ensuring it is completely safe for use by our sea cadets. It is progressing well.”
