More details have emerged after a bomb disposal unit descended on a south Bucks town this week.

At around 4.40am on Wednesday (January 30), three people placed a device on the cash machine at Barclays Bank, in Station Approach, Gerrards Cross, and detonated it, causing a blast.

They then ran off in the direction of the overflow car park of the train station.

Police said significant damage was caused to the building but nothing was stolen and no one was hurt.

The offenders have been described as three people wearing dark clothing. No other descriptions have been provided at this stage.

A number of police vehicles, forensics and a bomb disposal unit were seen in the area after the incident, and Station Approach was closed off.

Detective constable Gareth Wright, based at Amersham police station, said: “This was a highly unusual incident and I am appealing for anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious around the time of the incident on Wednesday morning.

“Please review any CCTV or dash cam footage that you may have and get in touch if you feel you have captured something that could be useful.

“I understand that there has been concern in the local community regarding the large police presence during the initial stages of this investigation.

“I would like to reassure local residents that the officers and departments present were there as a precaution due to an explosive device being used. I can confirm that the area is safe and you may see officers patrolling for reassurance.

“Please speak to one of our officers with any concerns you have, or you can contact your local neighbourhood team at DenhamGerrardsCrossNHPT@thamesvalley.pnn.police.uk.”
