Children and young people in Slough are taking up the council's WOW (walk once a week) challenge.
Pupils will be tracking their journeys to school on the special WOW Travel Tracker tool and anyone who walks at least once a week for a month can collect special badges.
Councillor Rob Anderson, Slough Borough Council's lead member for environment and leisure attended the launch of the scheme at Arbour Vale School in Farnham Road.
He said: “The pupils clearly loved the idea of WOW. As well as promoting the benefits of walking it brings a fun element and a challenge they can rise to.
“Just a few minutes of walking a day or a week can make a big difference to people’s health and the more we can encourage our young people to embrace an active lifestyle the more we can improve the health of residents and relieve some of the traffic on our roads.”
Arbour Vale teacher, Ola Holota said: “We hope it will ease traffic outside the school gates and teach pupils vital road safety skills.”
