Giant poppies have sprung up across Dedworth - attracting everyone’s attention as Windsor prepares for Sunday’s Armistice Day commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War.
The poppies have been attached to lampposts thanks to the combined efforts of the Royal British Legion and the Royal Borough’s street light team. They will remain in place throughout the month.
The poppies were the brainchild of Cllr Ed Wilson who represents Clewer South on the Royal Borough.
He said: “The poppies are a token of respect and remind us that we must never forget those who fought on behalf of our country. We have been putting these big poppies up in Dedworth for a few years and residents have said that they are very appropriate.”
Display silhouettes for each recipient of the Victoria Cross buried in the Royal Borough have been seen at Dedworth Library since last week, along with the citations for each medal holder.
