WINDSOR'S hospice has formally completed the process of buying the land for its new premises at Bray Lake.

The Thames Hospice in Hatch Lane which provides care for people at the end of their lives was granted planning permission by the Royal Borough to create a new building with 28 inpatient beds set in eight acres by the lake in Windsor Road near Maidenhead.

But the final purchase of the site from the Summerleaze company had to wait until certain planning conditions had been met.

Now the hospice has 'signed on the dotted line' and work building the new hospice should start early in the new year, ready for opening in the summer of 2020.

The current hospice site has become far too small to meet demand and the new site with its beautiful views will transform the situation.

Debbie Raven, chief executive of Thames Hospice, said this week she was deeply grateful to Summerleaze for selling to them.

She said: "The new hospice will be an unrivalled state-of-the-art facility for the residents of East Berkshire and South Buckinghamshire and will allow our nursing and medical teams to continue to deliver exceptional care to our community."
