BEAVER scouts in Old Windsor had a problem when they needed to do some cooking to earn their latest badge.

The single oven and tiny kitchen in their Queen's Close headquarters were not big enough to cope with 17 six to seven year olds all trying to cook at the same time.

But community minded headteacher Andy Snipp at the village's St Peter's CE Middle School, Crimp Hill came to the rescue, offering the group the use of the school's modern food room for the evening.

After arriving at the school the boys listened to their leader Emma Wood outline their cookie-cooking mission before going on to weigh, mix and bake huge numbers of chocolate chip cookies.

Mrs Wood said: "It was a great evening and the boys loved being in the school as a bit of a change. The facilities were excellent and meant we could do our cooking in a safe, clean and modern environment. Many of the boys will go on to join the school so this gave them a great taster of what the school has to offer."

Seven-year-old Theo said: "It was all brilliant and I even did the washing up for my team. I accidentally washed the floor as well when my bowl overflowed but I managed to mop it all up."

The Beavers have also recently completed their disability awareness and builder badges.
