The graveyard in Horton is almost full - and ward councillor Colin Rayner is hoping the Royal Borough will buy adjoining land so it can be extended.

At Tuesday's council meeting Cllr Rayner revealed that the construction company Cemex owned the land needed and was prepared to sell it.

He told Royal Borough colleagues: "It is good that people should be allowed to be buried in their own village if they choose."

After the meeting Cllr Rayner said that paying for the small piece of land would not cost the borough council any more than paying for three extra car parking spaces.

He said: "There is still a long road ahead even if the council does agree to buy the land so we can extend the cemtery. We would have to get planning permission."

Villagers in Eton Wick who wanted to extend their graveyard suffered a major disappointment recently, when permission was refused by borough planning councillors on the grounds that it could threaten water supplies.
