Eton Wick has been left 'seething with anger' after travellers moved onto the Stockdales Road recreation ground over the weekend.
That was the view of Eton Town Councillor Ron Lewandowski who issued each of the 20 or so caravans and their occupants with a formal notice to leave by 5pm today on behalf of the authority.
He was accompanied by colleague Cllr Peter Lawless and three Police Community Support officers.
He said: "There is a seething resentment in the village - quite a lot of anger."
The village Facebook page has been alive with accusations that businesses have been forced to close because of the travellers.
The barber shop LA Jaks was closed this afternoon - with one report on the Facebook page suggesting equipment had been stolen.
The manager of the Age Concern charity shop said that she had decided to lock the door after some toys were stolen and she became concerned about the behaviour and language of some children.
But she said she had sold a bicycle to one child and her mother.
It is understood police have issued section 61 enabling them to move the travellers on following complaints.
