THE headteacher of a new free school has been revealed.

Walter Boyle, currently deputy principal at Wymondham College in Norfolk, will take up the role of headteacher at the new, 15m Holyport College, in Ascot Road, Holyport in January 2014 ahead of the school's planned opening in September 2014.

The secondary day and boarding school has a sponsorship deal with Eton College to provide advice and skills with the day to day running of the facility.

Mr Boyle said: "Holyport College is one of the most exciting developments in boarding education in England today. Young people from different backgrounds and of different abilities will benefit greatly from being part of the Holyport community.

"I look forward to working with them and with their parents and carers to ensure they reach their full potential." The news comes after work began on the building of the site on Monday, June 10 and the funding agreement for the school had been signed by schools minister, Lord Nash, last week.

Simon Dudley, the chair of governors and a Royal Borough councillor, said; "Everything is moving swiftly and its full steam ahead now." The school will initially open with 40 pupils in Year 7 and 80 pupils in Year 9, but will have the capacity for 500 places for 11 to 19-year-old co-educational day and boarding pupils.
