THE M4 was closed for around an hour last night (Thursday) as firefighters tackled a car fire.

The incident happened at around 7.30pm between junction seven for Slough and junction eight/ nine for Maidenhead westbound and involved a Rover 75 vehicle on fire.

One appliance from the Maidenhead station attended the blaze and used breathing apparatus and one fire hose to tackle the fire.

Yemi Cullimore, watch manager at the Maidnhead station, said: "There was one person driving and they were fine, but unfortunately the vehicle was destroyed in the fire."

The crew left the scene at 8.30pm.
