A GUITARIST celebrated for being at the forefront of his generation will tell untold stories during is next tour.

Ewan McLennan brings his third album ‘Stories Still Untold’ to Newbury next month.

With two critically acclaimed albums and a BBC Radio 2 Horizon Award under his belt, as well as the plaudits he received after his TV appearance on the world famous Transatlantic Sessions, his latest work and touring is much anticipated.

Having learnt from and worked with both Martin Simpson and Dick Gaughan over recent years, it’s evident in Ewan’s guitar playing and in his music more generally that he has absorbed and inherited a great deal, and at first hand, from the older generation of ‘folk greats’ before carving his own unique path.

‘Stories Still Untold’ is another milestone in this respect.

More than ever this latest album has Ewan cast in the role of storyteller, with each song pulling you in and spinning a new tale before giving way to the next.

There are new songs and old songs, past and present, spanning several hundred years. You’ll hear the first ever airing of powerful ‘big ballads’ dug up from some of the more obscure collections, as well as haunting traditional lost-love ballads that have journeyed across the Atlantic and back.

You’ll hear the cries of political dissent, long part of the folk song tradition, and sitting seamlessly beside all these you’ll hear Ewan’s own modern but timeless song writing – ranging from ballads from underbelly of society, through to poignant and personal stories as in the stand-out ‘Out On the Banks’.

Expect all of this and more in Ewan McLennan’s live performances.

Delivered with a subtle yet powerful and earthy passion and a rare skill on the guitar, this troubadour will enthral audiences with folk music that is at the same time unique and timeless.

Ewan McLennan will be at New Greenham Arts Centre in Newbury on Friday, July 3. Tickets cost £12. For more information and to buy tickets visit www.cornexchangenew.com A GUITARIST celebrated for being at the forefront of his generation will tell untold stories during is next tour.
