The final orchestral concert of the season by West Forest Sinfonia will be played on Sunday, June 28.

The concert at St Paul’s Church will be conducted by our guest, Christopher Adey, who has had a long and distinguished career, appearing with orchestras throughout the UK and Europe, as well as in the USA, Canada, South Africa, India and the Middle and Far East. The “Ruy Blas” overture by Mendelssohn opens the concert.

This vivacious and energetic concert overture was written in just three days to accompany Victor Hugo’s play of the same name.

The soloist in Brahms’ violin concerto is Octavi Martínez Bartolomé the brilliant young Spanish virtuoso.

Truly one of the great concertos for violin, the composer collaborated with the work’s dedicatee, Joseph Joachim. Joachim was an enthusiastic participant in this process, although not all of his suggestions were adopted by the composer! Joachim gave the first performance in 1879 in a programme that also included Beethoven’s violin concerto.

The concert concludes with the Symphonic Dances by Rachmaninov.

This was his final composition, written in New York and allowed him the opportunity to indulge in romantic nostalgia for the Russia he left twenty three years previously, as well as embracing the rhythmic vitality of his newly adopted home.

The work is an orchestral “tour de force” using an expanded woodwind section (including saxophone), piano, harp and full brass and percussion departments. The concert is at 7.30pm at St Paul’s Church in Reading Road, Wokingham.

Tickets cost £15 & £13(concessions). Email: tickets@westforestsinfonia.org visit www.wegottickets.com or call 0118 978 6189 or available at the door.
