One of the hardest things about preparing for a festival is deciding what to take with you. Miriam Wright has created a festival veteran’s A-Z guide of what to remember.
Anorak or poncho, it may be summer but that only means it rains less, it never stops...
Baby wipes Perhaps I only speak for myself but those showers just seem so far away (and you seem to come out less clean...). From experience, it’s not fun being kicked out of the tent because you smell
Condoms (you never know)
Duct tape, Deodorant and Dry shampoo
Extra tent pegs
Fold out chair, fruit
Gum (but hopefully you’ll bring toothpaste and toothbrushes as well) and glowsticks - if you wear enough of them, the late night Portaloo trips become more entertaining
Hand gel (anti-bacterial) and a hat.
Insect repellent
Jumpers, it can get crazily cold at night and jeans, at least two pairs.
Kleenex or
loo roll (for when Kleenex isn’t enough)
Mobile phone there’s an on-site charger point
NIGHT LIGHT - when it’s dark, it’s very, very dark - especially when you are trying to find your tent among thousands of others.
Openers (of both can AND bottle variety)
Pillow a cheap one you can throw away afterwards, plastic bags to keep essentials dry
QUEUES be prepared to stand in line - for loos, food, even to get in and out
Roll mat
Suncream and sunglasses (let’s be optimistic)
Ticket, torch and tent
Underwear - at least change that and an umbrella.
Vitamin supplements
Water, lots of it, especially if it’s hot and you can’t forget the essential wellies.
X marks the spot, have someway of identifying which is your tent, ribbons or strips of fabric are useful.
Your consideration for other people: manners are a must.
ZZZZZZZ get plenty of sleep before you go - you won’t get much on site
What Not To Take:
Gas canisters (any size)
Petrol burners
Any form of aerosol over 250ml
Also, flags aren’t allowed in the arena
