Crystal Castles tower over all

THE summer is usually known as a time when clubs and venues go quiet while the festivals take over and keep the masses entertained.

Skint Mondays at Revolution, our weekly night for lovers of indie, electro, nu-disco and bass, has somewhat bucked this trend with capacity crowds heading indoors and packing the dancefloor even on the warmest summer evenings.

Last Monday was our biggest night yet as the notorious Canadian duo Crystal Castles came to town to play a rare DJ set for us.

Best known for their stagediving antics and energetic live show, Alice and Ethan from the band made quite an impact with the crowd, causing a surge forward when they first appeared in the DJ booth.

Ethan took care of the mixing, throwing in everything from Sonic Youth and Nirvana to a remix of their own track 'Crimewave' while Alice danced along and chatted to the fans.

Newbury DJ Yes! Tom took over after Crystal Castles on the decks and kept everyone jumping until close.

More special guests are on the way including Olugbenga from Skint Mondays' favourites Metronomy who will be DJing for us this Monday.

Metronomy are also one of the acts playing at Standon Calling Festival in Hertfordshire this weekend alongside Buena Vista Social Club and Berkshire acts such as Dry The River and Mr Fogg.

The intimate three day festival, from Friday to Sunday, has built a great reputation with a strong line-up of new talent (Florence & The Machine, Friendly Fires and Mumford & Sons all played before they became big) plus luxury toilets and a swimming pool!

If you do head down, be sure to catch our DJ set in the Camp Alcatraz area on Sunday night.
