BARRY HAYLES believes that Windsor can finish in the top-five of the Hellenic Premier Division this season.

Hayles, 45, joined Windsor as a player-coach in the summer after a similar role at Chesham United and he has wasted no time to make an impact.

The striker has scored three goals in his last three games, helping the Stag Meadow club to a four match unbeaten run and eighth position in the Hellenic Premier Division table.

The ex-professional told the Observer: “It’s lovely here at Windsor. It’s a nice, family and homely club and they’ve made me feel welcome from the management staff downwards, so I’ve settled really nicely.

“I’m down here as player-coach so would like to pass on my knowledge to the younger players and hopefully we can grow as a team.

“We’re fresh to this league but have the capability of finishing in the top five, if we can compete the way we can and if we focus on our main goals.”

Hayles scored the first goal in the 3-0 win against Ascot United at Stag Meadow on Bank Holiday Monday and he believes it was one of the best performances so far this season.

He said: “We played really well. We were solid, dictated the tempo and thankfully we took our chances, unlike Saturday.

“We have played well in most games when we’ve not taken our chances and that has been our Achilles heel, but on Monday we were quite determined and focused to score the goals to get us that platform.

"I'm pleased and it's always nice to score goals but on Monday I thought we were complete from back to front.

"I love scoring goals so the more the merrier but I never set targets. It's always nice to have three in three and hopefully next time I will make it four in four."

Looking back on the 1-1 home draw with Fairford Town on Saturday, Hayles added: “We had a few chances where, on another day, we could have taken all three points, but when you go a goal down in the last 10 minutes in a game you’re quite happy to get a point in the end really.”
