WINDSOR Football Club is holding a free open evening on Wednesday April, 12 for budding young goalkeepers to hone their skills.

The initiative, which is spearheaded by former Watford and Brentford keeper Richard Lee, is offering youngsters the chance to learn from several current and ex-professional shot-stoppers.

Lee, who personally mentors several English Football League goalkeepers, is committed to widening the net in the Royal Borough so more keepers can fulfill their potential.

Under the auspice of GK Icon, Lee and a team of dedicated professionals which includes former Coventry City, Wycombe Wanderers and current Mansfield Town goalkeeper Scott Shearer and current Swindon Town coach Dean Thornton, will all convene at Stag Meadow to pass on their footballing knowledge and expertise.

The free coaching session is open to boys and girls of mixed abilities aged between 7-18 years old. It has been designed to give young shot-stoppers an insight into an array of modern day goalkeeping techniques which have been tailored around advanced sports psychology, nutrition and conditioning programmes.

“The UK has always had a pedigree for producing top-class goalkeepers,” said Lee. “It’s important, therefore, that we continue our rich tradition and reach out into local communities to provide the tools and education to help players take their game to the next level.

“I know Windsor very well. The town and surrounding villages are awash with football talent, so it’s good that we're able to draw down on our own professional experience to support and guide young people, and their parents, in the right direction.”

The practical coaching session will take place between 7pm - 8pm at Windsor FC off St. Leonards Road. Goalkeepers will need to bring their football boots, gloves, shin pads and plenty to drink.
